Marketing email templates

Why use templates

A marketing email template is a reusable email design: a subject line and a body you can start a broadcast from, or send from an automation. Build your newsletter layout, welcome email or event invitation once, then reuse it instead of starting from scratch each time. Templates also make testing easy, because you can send the same design to a test list and then to your real list.

This article covers marketing templates in Marketing, Email, Templates. For templates used when you email a contact from the CRM, see Email Templates.

Find your templates

Go to Marketing, Email, Templates. Each template card shows how many times it has been used and when it was last used. Templates marked Built-in come with Chorum; you can use them as they are or as a starting point, but you cannot delete them. Use the search box to find a template by name.

Create a template

  1. Choose the button to create a new template.
  2. Under Details, fill in:
    • Name: for example "Monthly newsletter" or "Welcome email".
    • Subject line: the default subject for emails made from this template. You can change it on each broadcast.
    • Category: a label to keep templates organised, such as general, onboarding or promotional.
    • Icon and Accent colour: help you spot the template in the list.
  3. Build the Body with blocks: Header, Text, Image, Button, Divider, Spacer, 2 Columns, Social Links and Products. Drag them in from the palette and click a block to edit it.
  4. Choose Create template.

Personalisation

The editor lets you insert merge fields: First name, Last name, Full name, Email, Company and Unsubscribe URL. They appear in the email as placeholders such as {{firstName}}.

  • Email broadcasts fill in {{name}} (full name) and {{email}}. Use those two in templates you plan to send as broadcasts. Every broadcast also gets an unsubscribe link added automatically.
  • Automation emails (drip sequences and automations) also fill in {{firstName}}, {{lastName}} and the other fields.

Always send a test to your test list to check that every placeholder is replaced the way you expect.

Use a template

Edit or remove a template

Choose Edit on a template to change it. Changes apply to emails you create from it afterwards; broadcasts you already made from the template keep their own copy. Use the bin icon to delete a template you no longer need.

Template ideas to start with

  • Newsletter: header with your logo, two or three short stories each with a button, and social links at the bottom.
  • Welcome email: a warm two paragraph introduction and one button to your most useful resource.
  • Event invitation: what, when and where at the top, a short agenda, and a single "Save my seat" button.
  • Product promotion: a Products block pulling live items from your connected store.
