Bing Webmaster Tools: connect your verified site

What you get

Bing Webmaster Tools does for Bing what Search Console does for Google. Connecting it adds Bing impressions, clicks, click-through rate, average position and top queries to Reports and the SEO Command Centre, so you see your whole search picture.

Bing connects with an API key rather than a sign-in: you create a key in Bing and paste it into Chorum.

Before you start

  • You need an admin role in Chorum.
  • You need a Bing Webmaster Tools account with your site verified.
  • If you run marketing for customers, switch to the customer's workspace first.

Step 1: verify your site in Bing

  1. Go to Bing Webmaster Tools and add your site.
  2. If the site is already verified in Google Search Console, use Bing's option to import it from Search Console. It is the quickest way.
  3. Check the site shows as verified.

Step 2: create an API key

  1. In Bing Webmaster Tools, open Settings, API Access.
  2. Generate an API key and copy it. Treat it like a password: anyone with it can read your Bing data.

Step 3: connect in Chorum

  1. Go to Marketing, Settings, Web analytics.
  2. On the Bing Webmaster Tools card, choose Connect new Bing site.
  3. Enter the Site URL exactly as it appears in Bing, for example https://example.com/. The https:// part matters.
  4. Paste the API key and connect. Chorum checks with Bing that the site is verified under that key and stores the key encrypted.

Step 4: check it is working

Choose Sync now on the connection, then open Marketing, Intelligence, Reports and look for the Bing top queries panel.

How often it updates

Chorum takes a snapshot every night, and Refresh today on Reports pulls the latest figures. Bing provides its top queries as an all-time list, so that list looks the same whatever date range you pick; the daily impression and click totals do follow the date range.

Troubleshooting

  • API key rejected: the key is wrong or has been revoked. Create a new one in Bing and paste it again.
  • Site not found under this key: the key belongs to a different Bing account from the one that verified the site. Create the key in the account that owns the site.
  • Site is not verified: verify it in Bing Webmaster Tools first.
  • Address mismatch: https://example.com and https://example.com/ count as different sites to Bing. Copy the address exactly.

Disconnecting

Choose Disconnect on the connection to delete the stored key and figures. Revoking the key in Bing also stops Chorum syncing straight away.
