Google Search Console: connect your verified site

Last updated:

What you get

Search Console shows how your website appears in Google search. Connecting it brings that data into Marketing:

  • impressions, clicks, click-through rate and average position,
  • the searches (queries) that show your site, with clicks and position for each,
  • the SEO Command Centre, the Keywords tracker and content Opportunities, which all depend on it.

Chorum only reads data. It cannot submit pages or change any Search Console settings.

Before you start

  • You need an admin role in Chorum.
  • Your site must already be verified in Search Console, and the Google account you use must have access to it. Chorum cannot verify a site for you.
  • If you run marketing for customers, switch to the customer's workspace first.

Step 1: verify your site in Search Console (if you have not already)

  1. Go to Google Search Console and add a property.
  2. Choose Domain (recommended, it covers every subdomain) or URL prefix.
  3. Verify ownership, usually by adding a DNS record. Google shows you exactly what to add.

Step 2: connect in Chorum

  1. Go to Marketing, Settings, Web analytics.
  2. On the Google Search Console card, choose Connect new SC site.
  3. Sign in to Google with the account that has Search Console access, and approve read-only access.
  4. Back in Chorum, pick your site from the list. Domain properties look like sc-domain:example.com; URL prefix properties look like https://example.com/.
  5. The connection shows as Active.

Step 3: check it is working

  1. Choose Sync now on the connection.
  2. Open Marketing, Intelligence, Reports and look for search clicks, average position and the top queries panel.

How often it updates

Chorum takes a snapshot every night. Google's own Search Console data runs two to three days behind, so the most recent days always look quiet, and 30 day views are more useful than 7 day views for the first week or so. Refresh today on Reports pulls the latest available figures.

Troubleshooting

  • "No verified Search Console sites on this Google account": the account cannot see any verified site. Verify the site in Search Console, or ask the site owner to add you, then connect again.
  • Still zero after a week: check Search Console itself. If Google shows no search traffic, Chorum will not either.
  • Positions differ slightly from Search Console: Chorum averages position weighted by impressions over the date range, which can differ a little from Google's own view.

Disconnecting

Choose Disconnect on the connection to remove Chorum's access and delete the stored figures.
