Google Analytics 4: connect your GA4 property
Last updated:
What you get
Connecting Google Analytics 4 brings your website traffic into Marketing, Intelligence, Reports, next to your email and social results:
- sessions, users, new users, conversions and conversion value, bounce rate and average session time,
- where visitors came from (organic search, paid social, direct and so on), and
- sessions for each campaign. Chorum tags the links in your emails with the campaign name, so you can see which email drove which visits.
Chorum only reads summary figures. It cannot change anything in your Google Analytics account.
Before you start
- You need an admin role in Chorum.
- You need a Google account with access to the GA4 property for your website.
- If you run marketing for customers, switch to the customer's workspace first (top of the Marketing pages). The connection then belongs to that customer.
Connect
- Go to Marketing, Settings, Web analytics.
- On the Google Analytics 4 card, choose Connect new GA4 property.
- Sign in to Google with the account that has access to the property, and approve read-only access to Analytics.
- Back in Chorum, a list of your GA4 properties opens. Pick the one for the website you are marketing. Older Universal Analytics properties are not supported.
- The connection shows as Active.
Check it is working
- Choose Sync now on the new connection to pull yesterday's figures straight away.
- Open Marketing, Intelligence, Reports. The Web sessions and Web conversions figures should now show real numbers, with the traffic source and campaign panels filled in.
How often it updates
Chorum takes a snapshot every night, so each morning Reports shows yesterday's figures without slowing the page down. For today's partial numbers, choose Refresh today on the Reports page.
Troubleshooting
- "No GA4 properties on this Google account": the account you signed in with cannot see any GA4 property. Ask whoever manages your Google Analytics to add you under Admin, Property access management, then connect again.
- Sync fails after it was working: Google access was revoked or expired. Disconnect the connection and connect it again.
- Numbers look low: check the date range on Reports. History only starts from the day you connected, so longer ranges fill in over time.
Disconnecting
Choose Disconnect on the connection to remove Chorum's access and delete the stored figures for that property.
