Using the SEO tools

What the SEO tools do

The SEO section helps you get found in search engines and in AI assistants. It shows how your site performs in Google and Bing today, finds keywords worth targeting, keeps an eye on competitors, checks your site for technical problems and tells you whether AI assistants recommend you.

Find everything under Marketing, SEO: Command Centre, Keywords, Keyword Research, Competitors, Backlinks, Site Audit and AI Visibility.

Set up: three things to connect

  1. Google Search Console and Bing Webmaster Tools. These feed the Command Centre with your real search data. Connect them at Marketing, Settings, Web analytics. See Google Search Console and Bing Webmaster Tools.
  2. Your domain and target keywords. Go to Marketing, Settings, SEO / Agency, enter your Primary domain (for example example.com) and list your Target keywords, one per line.
  3. A DataForSEO account (optional). Keyword research, competitor data and backlinks use DataForSEO, a third-party search data service you pay for directly. On the same settings page, enter your DataForSEO API login and API password. Without it, the Command Centre, Keywords, Site Audit and AI Visibility still work.

Command Centre: how you are doing

The SEO Command Centre combines your Google and Bing data for the last 30 or 90 days:

  • Traffic over time: clicks and impressions, plus your average position.
  • Rising queries and Falling queries: the searches where your position improved or dropped most.
  • Untapped queries: searches where you appear often but few people click (50 or more impressions and under 2% click-through). These are your quickest wins: rewrite the page title and meta description to make people want to click.
  • Top queries: the searches you appear for most.

Keywords: track your rankings

Keywords is your keyword tracker. Pin a search term you care about (for example "outsourced IT support Leeds"), optionally with a topic to group related terms, and Chorum tracks where you rank for it using your Search Console and Bing data. The history builds up from a daily snapshot, and you get an alert when a keyword drops or breaks into the top 10 or top 3.

Keyword Research: decide what to target

Two ways to find keywords:

  • Describe your business, the outcome you want and your audience, and let AI pick a set of target keywords for you.
  • Look up a single keyword to see its monthly search volume and how hard it is to rank for.

Aim for keywords with decent volume, manageable difficulty and a clear match to what you offer. A smaller keyword that matches exactly what people buy from you is worth more than a big generic one.

Competitors: share of voice

Competitors tracks how visible you are against other sites over time. Add a competitor's domain, or pick from the Suggested competitors Chorum finds by keyword overlap. You can also compare your keywords directly against one competitor to find terms they rank for and you do not.

Backlinks: who links to you

Backlinks shows your backlink profile and the sites linking to you, and tracks new and lost referring domains. Links from relevant, trusted sites are one of the strongest ranking signals, so watch for lost links worth winning back.

Site Audit: fix technical problems

Site Audit crawls your whole site and checks page titles, meta descriptions, headings, links, image alt text, canonical tags, robots rules and your sitemap. It is free and unlimited because it does not use an external data service.

  1. Enter the site to audit, for example www.example.com, and run the crawl.
  2. Review the Health score, Pages crawled and the findings, grouped by type, with errors first and then warnings.
  3. Choose Generate recommendations for a prioritised action plan with suggested fixes. This uses AI credits.
  4. Fix the issues, run the audit again, and compare. Chorum shows what is new, what is fixed and how the score changed since the last scan.

AI Visibility: do AI assistants recommend you?

More people now ask AI assistants for recommendations instead of searching. AI Visibility checks whether you come up.

  1. Add an audience question, the kind of thing a buyer might ask, for example "best CRM for MSPs".
  2. Enter the Brand to detect and, optionally, your domain.
  3. Chorum asks the AI the question without naming your brand, then checks the answer for your brand and domain. Each question shows Mentioned or Not mentioned, and your overall Visibility score is the share of questions where you are mentioned. Checks use AI credits.

To improve your visibility, publish clear, specific pages that answer those questions directly, and get mentioned on other trusted sites in your field.

SEO for your customers

If you run SEO for clients, switch to the customer's workspace first. Each customer can have their own primary domain, target keywords and DataForSEO key under SEO / Agency; anything not set falls back to your own defaults (shown as Inherited from tenant default). The settings page also lists your Managed workspaces.

A simple monthly routine

  1. Check the Command Centre for falling queries and untapped queries.
  2. Rewrite titles and descriptions for two or three untapped queries.
  3. Run a Site Audit and fix any new errors.
  4. Check AI Visibility and write one page that answers a question where you were not mentioned.
